It's worth a shot: An afternoon at a shot plate buffet
(Christine Eschbach)
Shot plates offer metalsmiths a unique way to create decorative dimensional embellishments. During this session we will create shot (small round balls) in an assortment of repeatable sizes and spend the afternoon hammering, refining and building an inventory of fine silver design elements.
Students are encouraged to take full advantage of the wide variety of designs made available to them during this session. As part of their materials kit, participants will receive enough fine silver grain to create upwards of 30 components dependent on size. While additional material will be available for purchase, students are invited to bring their own clean, solder-free, fine and sterling silver scrap to melt and recycle into usable shot.
For those wishing to craft their own jewelry during this session, the components to make a pair of stud earrings and a simple stacker ring will be included in the materials kit.
Students should be comfortable wielding a two pound hammer, operating an acetylene torch and tolerant of an afternoon of loud noise. Disposable earplugs will be provided in the materials kit as it will be a noisy afternoon in the studio.
Tuition: $150.00
Materials: $40
Prerequisite: Basic 101 - Foundations is required, Basic 2 is recommended
