Basic 101 - Jewelry Foundations

Start here if you want a clear, concise and in-depth knowledge of basic jewelry making techniques. Learn how to use hand tools to cut, texture and file and machines to drill, sand and polish. There will be a number of demonstrations with hands-on bench-time to cement the knowledge. The wide range of topics covered will give you a solid foundation to set you out on your educational path with confidence. Learn how to recognize quality craftsmanship in the pieces you currently own or want to buy. The skills acquired in jewelry making come in handy on many levels, even fixing and altering things!

The project will introduce beginners to multiple techniques including sawing, drilling, texturing, filing, sanding, finishing and possibly riveting. A simple sterling ring kicks off the session with a bang!

Intro to Lampwork Glass Bead Making

Create unique, individualized glass beads to incorporate into your jewelry pieces.  Lampwork glass beads are made with melted glass and shaped to fabricate beautiful one of a kind beads. In this workshop students will learn the basics of lampworking, making beads decorated with flower designs, silver foil, copper leaf and layers of glass designs.

Skill Level: No Experience Necessary

Delica Geometric Beaded Bracelet

Louise will share her favorite delica beaded bracelet with you in this one-day workshop. Students can choose to make the one pictured here or use other colors to create their own palette. Beads, findings and needles will be given as a kit. All other supplies will be available during class.  The resulting bracelet  lies flat on your wrist and is light, airy, super comfortable and simply stunning!

Skill Level: No Experience Necessary

Basic 3 - “Pump Up the Volume” / Get Dimensional

Shift your focus to a more sculptural approach and discover more in depth knowledge of how to move metal. Sheet and wire can be manipulated in amazing ways! Bend, stretch, form, construct, fabricate, score, deck and forge pieces of jewelry and functional objects. Learn the basics of forging by hammering heavy wire to stretch it, learn to form and dap sheet to create bracelet and bowl shapes and to score and bend sharp corners to produce box forms. Students are encouraged to sample a variety of techniques and combine them in more significant pieces of their creation.
Projects may include (but are not limited to): A constructed cylinder box, hollow ring, forged bracelet or small scale sculptures.

Skill Level: Basic 2

Tuition: 250.

Lab Fee: 15.

Materials: 20. for non-precious metals. (Students bring their own silver or gold)
